Analog Photography Series

Throughout 2024, I have the wonderful opportunity to work with curator Katrin-Sophie Batz, to showcase some of my recent analog photographs throughout the beautiful offices of Grama Schwaighofer Vondrak Rechtsanwälte GmbH. The photographs on display are part of a series of abstract analog photographs shot on 35mm and Medium Format film, called PLAY DATE, that were exhibited as part of the 2023 Rotlicht Festival for Analog Photography in Vienna.

PLAY DATE is a series of light portraits created through a process of meditative, child-like play with light, texture and color. Making these images offered a pathway to reconnect with dormant parts of my own creativity, allowing me to create without expectations of a specific outcome or need for a defined narrative.

 

I chose to focus solely on the nature of light and grain as my subject, and was curious to explore what could be made using only single source lights, plastics and lenses to reflect light, as well as using in camera techniques, such as longer shutter speeds, to show how light and grain compositions behaved with camera movement. 

 

During editing, I discovered that cropping created another level of unique abstract imagery, revealing unexpected textures of stars and crystal-like patterns deep within the image. This was further developed into a series of grain galaxies, where I focused on highlighting starlike arrangements and hand drawing constellations onto the digital image. Ultimately by diving deep into the images, an entirely new universe was revealed, the macro and micro connecting full circle.
